It’s getting to be a regular thing now — chatter about women from outside the world of mixed martial arts taking on Ronda Rousey. Which makes some sense, given Rousey’s fame and the way in which she thoroughly demolished the last couple of challengers that the world of MMA provided.
In recent months, we’ve heard talk of hypothetical matchups with ex-boxer Laila Ali and a Texans cheerleader. Of course, that was all basically idle speculation, and this latest tidbit is, as well, but at least it comes from the world of wrestling.
Well, pro wrestling. Hey, Brock Lesnar and CM Punk (and long before them, Ken Shamrock) crossed over to MMA, right?
Now we have none other than Ric Flair suggesting that his daughter, Ashley, should tangle with Rousey. Of course, Ashley Fliehr isn’t just Ric’s daughter, but a pro wrestler in her own right who performs under the stage name Charlotte.

Here is what Flair told Greg Beck of Wrestling News:
“Let’s do it, man, that’s what I want to see. Charlotte’s not afraid to get in there. In all fairness, if she had a year to train, I’m not saying Ashley would win by any means, but if she had a year to get ready for it, it wouldn’t end in Round 1 … I’ll predict that. It wouldn’t be a 14-second tap-out. Ashley would need to learn submission wrestling but Ashley is strong beyond belief. Today, think about it right, she could do 30 front-handed pull-ups and 100 push-ups. She can run at level 9 for an hour on a treadmill and she weighs 155 pounds with 3 percent body fat.”
It’s a good thing that Flair is not saying that his daughter would win, because she almost certainly wouldn’t. He’s smart to add the caveat about Charlotte needing to train, but the NXT star would also need to lose 20 pounds, because Rousey’s camp has made it clear that the UFC champ won’t fight above that weight, not even for a showdown with Cyborg.
On the other hand, Charlotte, as Flair indicated, is a very impressive physical specimen, one not shy about touting her “genetically superior” traits. And she certainly has some athleticism, which you can see in this clip:
It certainly seems that Rousey could use some legitimate competition, or at least someone to last more than a few seconds against her, let alone past Round 1. Elsewhere in his interview with Wrestling News, Flair spoke of his “frustration” with the way his daughter’s career is progressing. Perhaps, seeing how famous Rousey has become, he’ll suggest to his daughter that she make like CM Punk and try her hand in the Octagon.
Or perhaps we’ll see Rousey take on Charlotte in the latter’s WWE stomping grounds — after all, Rousey just made a cameo appearance in the ring at WrestleMania 31. Now that would have a lot of folks yelling, “Wooooooo!”
