Dog left in a hot car: 8300 block, Tomlinson Ave., Bethesda, June 24. Animal services received a call about a dog in a car. The temperature was 91 degrees with a heat index of 102. The animal was removed from the vehicle. The dog's owner arrived and was issued a citation. The fine for violating the cruelty provision is $500. The animal was left inside the car for at least 30 minutes.
Cat nuisance: 18700 block, Curry Powder Lane, Germantown. June 21. Animal services received a complaint about a neighbor's cats that were trespassing on property. The neighbor said that the animals were feral but that they were being fed and provided "houses" on his property. The neighbor was told that, under the county code, he was considered the owner. Animal services told him he must find a way to keep the cats off the complainant's property or pay a $100 fine for animal trespass.
"Citizen Pet of the Year" photo contest: Gaithersburg city residents are encouraged to submit photos of their pets in the "Gaithersburg's Citizen Pet of the Year" contest.
